About a year before: setting my retirement date

It is up to you to determine your retirement date. To do this, several factors need to be taken into account:

The start date for your retirement is set at the earliest on the first day of the month following the date of receipt of your pension application. Also, it can't be before the date you applied for a pension.

Before making a decision, we advise you to reflect on this by logging into your personal area. This allows you to:

  • use age and amount simulators;
  • view your career record and, if necessary, request an update.

Please note

You must inform your employer of your plan to retire. They may inform you about the duration of any notice period to be given.

In addition, claiming your pension may affect the payment of certain benefits. If you receive:

  • a survivor’s pension, the amount of this may be reduced at the time your personal pension is granted;
  • a disability pension, payment of this will end as soon as your personal pension is granted;
  • the allowance for adults with a disability (AAH - allocation pour adulte handicapé), payment of this allowance will end when your pension is granted. Under certain conditions, an additional amount may be paid to you by the Family Allowance Fund (CAF - Caisse d’Allocations Familiales);
  • certain benefits or income, payment will end as soon as you reach the legal retirement age and meet the necessary contributions period for retirement at the maximum rate: unemployment benefits; special allowance from the National Employment Fund (ASFNE - Allocation Spéciale du Fonds National de l'Emploi); cessation of activity allowance for certain employed workers (CATS - Cessation d’Activité des Travailleurs Salariés); earned income supplement (RSA - Revenu de Solidarité Active).

Did you know?

There is a special allowance for asbestos workers (ATA - Allocation des Travailleurs de l’Amiante). ATA ceases to be paid from age 60 if you meet the contributions period for a pension at the maximum rate or at the latest at age 65, regardless of your contributions period.

5 months before your departure: apply for my pension

We recommend that you apply for your pension 5 months before your chosen departure date.

By completing your application online, you only have one application to submit for all your basic and supplementary pension plans.

An advisor for each of your plans will then review your application and contact you if necessary.

To submit your pension application online, log into your personal area and access the “Apply for my pension” service. Find out about the “Apply for my pension service”.

Please note

If you were born in or after 1953 and you were also an agricultural employee, craftsperson or tradesperson? Except in specific cases, to apply for your pension, you must contact the most recent plan to which you contributed (l’Assurance retraite or the MSA). They will become your single point of contact for processing your application, and for calculating and paying your pension for these activities.

You will be able to track the status of your application at any time, from the online service Track my current application (Suivre ma demande en cours).

Applying for a specific pension

Here are the steps to take if you are applying for a specific pension.

If you work or have worked abroad

You will need to indicate this on the single pension application form. In fact, quarters of activity worked in certain countries may be taken into account, subject to conditions.

If you live in a country outside the European Union, you can apply for your pension online. Applying for my pension online.

If you’ve had a long career

The application must be made by contacting the l'Assurance retraite or the pension fund for your last activity, 4 months before the planned retirement date.

While you wait for a response, it is advisable to continue the activity and to continue to validate your entitlements under the pension scheme.

If you have a disability

You must send a request for a certificate of early retirement for insured persons with a disability to your regional fund. This certificate is issued no earlier than six months before the possible start date for early retirement. Send it along with your application for early retirement.

If you are permanently incapacitated

You must provide all necessary supporting documents that demonstrate your permanent incapacity.

Payment of the following benefits or income will end as soon as you reach the legal retirement age and meet the necessary contributions period for a pension at the maximum rate: unemployment benefits; special allowance from the National Employment Fund (ASFNE - Allocation Spéciale du Fonds National de l'Emploi); cessation of activity allowance for certain employed workers (CATS - Cessation d’Activité des Travailleurs Salariés); earned income supplement (RSA - Revenu de Solidarité Active).
